Brooke Collins’ journey to become an entertainment icon in the Southeastern Gay community began in 1985 while attending the North Carolina School of the Arts, where he majored in Dance. After winning a talent show in Myrtle Beach there was no doubt of what was to come. Over the next few years Brooke honed his craft by competing and winning numerous titles and crowns including Miss Gay South Carolina America; this would secure his place in the hearts of drag fans throughout the country. “The Southern Beauty with Vegas style”, an endearment given to him by a nightclub owner in Ohio, Brooke quickly became known for elaborate, lavish and over the top costumes.
After touring the Eastern U.S. for 10 years Brooke decided to ease up on the road and dedicate more time to the Charleston community. He accepted the position of Show Director for the original Dudley’s on King St. and went on to become the entertainment host for clubs such as The Arcade, Indigo Lounge, Downtown, Avalon, Pantheon, and is the current “Glamazon Goddess” every weekend at the new Dudley's on Ann. He does occasionally still make guests appearances throughout the southeast.
Through hard work and diligence Brooke has been able to turn his passion for creating costumes, headpieces, jewelry and all things sparkly into a thriving drag personality. He is also the official costume designer for the Miss South Carolina America Organization. Over the last 25 years he has created over 6,000 costumes for the pageant and his costume design has been recognized in the Miss America Shoe Museum in Atlantic City.
Throughout his years as an entertainer here locally and throughout the southeast Brooke has been part of many charities and hosted numerous fundraisers; he has truly been a role model and leader for the gay community here in Charleston and throughout the state. Brooke was honored by being named Grand Marshall for the 2011 Charleston Pride festival.
